Robert Schnell, 92, died Thursday, April 12, surrounded by his loving family, at his
home in rural Millville.
Robert Edward Schnell Jr. was born June 11, 1925 to Robert E. and Elsie M.
(Radtke) Schnell Sr. He was baptized by Pastor C.J. Murry on July 5, 1925. He
confirmed the faith he was baptized in at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elgin on March 17,
1940 by Pastor C.A. Affeldt. On June 15, 1946, Robert married Doris Plank at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Elgin. The couple started farming in Little Valley and moved to
Bremen in Oakwood Township in 1954 where they farmed their entire married life.
Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church - Bremen for many years. Robert
served in many capacities at Trinity. Following the closure of Trinity Lutheran Church
- Bremen, he and Doris joined Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester.
Robert served for many years on the Oakwood Town Board and the Elgin Rural Fire
Board. Robert loved working on the farm, fishing and spending time with his family
and friends.
Robert is survived by his seven children, Cyril “Sam” (Betty) Schnell of Melrose,
Marcy (James) Dose of Lake City, Edward (Lorraine) Schnell of Lewiston, Peggy
Tentis of Millville, Russell (Sandy) Schnell of Durham, NC, Lonnie (Laura) Schnell of
Millville, and Missy (Mark) Bartsh of Plainview; 18 grandchildren ; 26 great-
grandchildren and one soon to be born; sister Joanne Jostock and brother Eugene
Schnell.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife on July 3, 2013. He was also preceded in
death by one grandson Thomas, parents, brothers Arthur Schnell and Wayne
Schnell and sisters Helen Wohlfeil and Adeline Smith.
Funeral service is Tuesday April 17, 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church
in Rochester with Pastor Jeff Limpert officiating. Burial is at the Elgin Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday, 4-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one
hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church.
