Robert John Schultz was born August 17, 1922 in Plainview Township the son of
Edward and Ida (Boelke) Schultz. He attended Plainview High School through the
eleventh grade at which point he was needed home on the family farm.
On October 30, 1949 he married Shirley Evans at the Immanuel Lutheran Church
in Plainview. The couple farmed and raised their family together east of Plainview.
In 1991 Robert and Shirley moved from the farm into Plainview. His wife, Shirley,
died November 17, 2004. Most recently, Robert lived at the St. Isidore Health
Center of Greenwood Prairie in Plainview.
Robert was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. He and
Shirley loved to travel and visited Germany and Austria as well as many places in
the United States. The couple also enjoyed playing cards together. Robert liked
to stay busy and kept a large garden. He was a woodworker and made outdoor
furniture and his own lattice for his wood fence. He also built a very detailed doll
house. He loved to drive his favorite tractor, the Farmall 330 which is still
operational today on the family farm. He took an annual trip to the MN State Fair
throughout his life and in his later years, Robert enjoyed his daily walk in Plainview
regardless of the weather. He will be lovingly missed for his quick whit and
enthusiasm.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Christine (Rusty) Wheeler of Ohio; sons,
William Schultz of Plainview and Allyn (Shelley Crowson) Schultz of Eyota; 9
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Jean) Schultz of St.
Charles
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; brother, William Schultz;
sisters, LeEtta Nietz and Dorothy Affeldt.
Funeral Service is Saturday, May 3, 2014, 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church
in Plainview with Rev. Scott Hirssig officiating. Burial is at Greenwood Cemetery in
Plainview. Visitation is Friday, May 2 from 5-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home
in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
