Roger Nickelsen, 68, of Plainview, died Friday October 26, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus. Roger Charles Nickelsen was born June 13, 1950 in Wabasha to Charles and LaVerne (Brobst) Nickelsen. Roger graduated from Dover-Eyota High School in 1968. In May of 1970 he joined the US Army and was stationed in Italy, and then discharged in December of 1971. On July 29, 1972 he married Janet Kahn in Winona. They lived in Dover for 9 years then moved to Eyota, then Elgin and eventually Plainview. Roger was a union Bricklayer working in the area for many years, retiring in 2014. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and going to garage sales. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan. He is survived by his wife Janet of Plainview; 2 sons, Jeromy (Veronica) Nickelsen of Sheboyan Falls, WI and Josh (Rachel) Nickelsen of Stewartville; 3 grandchildren, Monica, Matthew and Jack; siblings, Cheryl Nickelsen of Rochester, Cindy (Duane) Kahn of Minneiska, Tamara (Paul) Ahlers of Lake City, Pam (Tim) Gordon of Plainview and Ron (Bonnie) Nickelsen of Valley City, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson Carson Nickelsen and 1 brother Robert Nickelsen. Memorial service is Thursday, November 1, 10:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota with Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial is at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.
