Royaline Ila Back

Royaline Ila Back, 77, of Ostrander, Minnesota went home to God on February 4, 2026, at her home with her sons by her side.

Royaline was born on December 29, 1948, in Lime Springs, IA to Roy Milton and Faith Laura Mae (Tuttle) Schmidt. She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1967. On November 4, 1967, Royaline married Gordon Lee Back at our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, Minnesota.

When Gordon returned from the Army in 1970, the couple moved to Illinois. There, they welcomed two sons, Brian Lee Back on February 20, 1971, and Brent Richard Back on June 5, 1974.

Royaline was a mother, homemaker, and daycare provider. She also worked at Rock Valley Packaging in Love's Park, IL for about 10 years. She also helped son, Brent, with his business, Pino's Pizza, in Roscoe, IL for about 7 years. In 2017, they moved back to Ostrander, MN.

Royaline loved traveling, riding on the back of a Harley with her boys, flower gardening, vegetable gardening, canning, doll collecting, birds, reading, latch hook and fishing. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Royaline is survived by her husband, Gordon; sons, Brian (Faith) Back, and Brent Back; brothers, Randal (Judy) Schmidt, and Larry Schmidt; sisters, Bonnie (Jim) Reese, and Bunny Bassler; grandchildren, Audriana Rebmann, Joshua Back, Kassandra (Austin) Ferrie, and Brendon Back; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters Donna Tarrence and Linda Schroeder.

A funeral service will be at Noon on Monday February 9, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, MN (305 1st Street NW), a visitation will be held from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery. Schad and Zabel Funeral Homes is handling arrangements.
