Russell M. Pries, 103, of Eyota, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Whitewater Health Service in St. Charles. Russell was born February 17, 1914 in Eyota to Albert and Rena (Smith) Pries. He graduated from Eyota High School in 1933. On June 2, 1937 Russell married Harriet Saholt in Rochester. They farmed north of Eyota until 1953. He then was employed as a manager for the A.S.C.S. office in Rochester, retiring in 1979. Russell was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota where he served on numerous boards. He also served on the Eyota School board, the Farmers Cooperative Creamery board, the Rochester Production Credit Association board, was a former member of the Eyota Lions club and a past president of MNASCO. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and gardening. He was always very proud of his roses. When he was younger he played basketball on the Eyota High School team and then the Eyota town team. He was always a fan of Gopher basketball and football and a big fan of the Twins and Vikings. He was famous for his caramel corn. He made huge batches which he shared with friends and family. He is survived by two daughters; Nancy (David) Vehrenkamp of Eyota and Carol (Richard) Speltz of Altura; grandchildren; Wayne (Irene) Vehrenkamp of Eyota, Richard (Tracy) Vehrenkamp of Dover, Todd (Kimberly) Vehrenkamp of Byron, Scott (Juanita) Vehrenkamp of Conrath, WI, Michelle (Don) Danielson of St. Charles; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Helen Pries of Eyota. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Harriet, brother LaVaine and an infant brother at birth. Funeral service is Saturday, November 18, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist church in Eyota with Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial is at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation is Friday, 4-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
