Scott Alan Doherty

Scott A. Doherty, 49, passed away peacefully on the General In-Patient Hospice floor of Methodist Hospital on Monday, October 28, 2024, following a long battle with brain cancer.

Scott was born October 10, 1975, in Rochester, MN, to James Doherty and Diane (Polzin) Holzer.  As a child, he grew up and spent most of his childhood on a hobby farm with horses in Spring Valley.  As a teenager, he moved to Plainview, MN, where he grew up on a dairy farm with his mom and step-dad, John Holzer.  He attended Plainview High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball; he graduated from Plainview High School in 1993.  After high school, Scott worked in sales and management positions at SuperAmerica, KFC, Long John Silvers, and Walmart until he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1999.  He met his fiancé, Lori Burrichter, while working at Long John Silvers, and they shared a beautiful love and relationship together for 27 years, living in Rochester, MN; she has been by his side throughout his battle with brain cancer of 25 years. They enjoyed spending time together – watching sports games, dining out at different restaurants, going to the casino, attending concerts, and taking care of their cats, Tiger & Blackie.

Scott loved watching and attending sports games at all levels of play – especially the Timberwolves.  He managed a Facebook page with his brother, Kevin, for Timberwolves fans like themselves!!  He enjoyed working on cars, playing at the casino, and taking care of his animals; his interests include computer technology, graphic design, & photography.  He enjoyed spending time with his mom and family, and they shared special bonds with one another.  Memories of working on the farm, dining out, taking trips to the casino, and visiting the zoo will always be cherished.  This past summer, he especially loved a stroll on the MN Zoo treetop trail and watching the baby tiger cubs & monkeys at the zoo!!

Scott is survived by his mother, Diane (Polzin) Holzer, of Plainview; his brother, Kevin Doherty, and nephews, Cohen and Aedan, of Owatonna; half-siblings, Jenny and Jason Doherty, of Rochester; step-brothers, Denton and Greg Holzer, of Plainview; He is also survived by his special friend and fiancé, Lori Burrichter, of Rochester.

Scott was preceded in death by his dad, James Doherty, of Rochester; step-dad, John Holzer, of Plainview; his grandpa, Luther Polzin, of Dover; his uncle, Terry Polzin of Dover; step-sister, Shari Holzer, of Plainview; and his grandparents Cletus and Elaine Doherty, of Spring Valley.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Saint Joachim Catholic Church, 900 West Broadway, Plainview, MN 55964, with Father Tojy Jose as celebrant.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at St. Joachim Catholic Church Cemetery.
