Shirley Ann Funke was born June 8, 1945 in Wabasha to Leo and Norma
(Peters) Schmit.
She graduated from St. Felix High School in Wabasha. On October 30, 1965
she married John (Jack) Funke at St. Felix Catholic Church. They farmed in
Theilman until moving to Plainview in 1978.
Shirley had worked at Lakeside Foods in Plainview and most recently worked
as a cook at the Plainview Community Schools. She enjoyed fishing, hunting,
camping, gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Francis (Bobbi Jo) Funke of Plainview;
grandchildren, Desaray Timm, Sierra, Dakotah, Sheldon and Delaney Funke:
step grandchildren, Jessica, Mike and Zach Semling, brothers and sister, Jim
(Marsha) Schmit of Villa Park, IL, Bill (Rose) Schmit of Wabasha, Don Schmit of
Wabasha, Bob (Lori) Schmit of Prescott, WI, John (Buck) Schmit of Nelson, WI,
Barb (Paul) Heins of Kellogg, Leo (Penny) Schmit of Plainview and Joe (Sue)
Schmit of Wabasha.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 1 brother, Allan.
Funeral Mass is Thursday, January 15, 11:00 a.m. at St Joachim’s Catholic
Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial is at the St.
Felix Cemetery in Wabasha. Visitation is Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at Schad &
Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the
church on Thursday.
