Shirley Mae Olson, 96 of Plainview, died Friday, March 7, 2025 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview.
She was born August 11,1928 in Wabasha Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Florence (Olson) Deming. She graduated from Plainview High School.
On an evening out with sisters she met Robert Earl Olson, while he was playing cards. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1949. Shirley and Robert owned and operated a school bus service in Millville, Minnesota. Upon selling the bus business they purchased her parents dairy farm in 1953 where they raised three children; Gary, Richard and Cindy. She enjoyed all the various animals along with helping planting all the crops. She also worked for the City of Plainview (Plainview Municipal Liquor Store), were she enjoyed the camaraderie of the locals. She was a lifelong member of the Saint Joachim Catholic parish and the American Legion Auxiliary; Unit 179 Plainview and Unit 579 Millville, Minnesota.
Shirley was always looking for a card game whether it was Euchre or 500. She also enjoyed her car rides looking at various farm fields.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Elizabeth) of Plainview, son-in-law John Hartert of Plainview; grandchildren, Derrek (Tammy) Olson of Plainview, Cassandra (Michael) Beltz of Wabasha, Lindsey (Dustin) Mulholland, and Jacqueleen (Nick) Johnson of Plainview. Fifteen great-grandchildren, Emelyn, Henry, Grace, Susan, Jack, Scarlett, Mitchell, Esmee, Estelle, Emery, Raelynn, Gatlin, Lyla, Mack and Iris; brother Laverne (Beverly) Deming and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Olson, son Gary and daughter Cindy Hartert and her siblings; Willard Deming, Jean Shultz, Jeannette Kruger and Violet Boettcher and Brother-in Laws; Elmer Shultz, Ralph Kruger, Bernie Boettcher.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at St. Joachim Church in Plainview, with Father Tojy Jose officiating, followed by graveside burial. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to service at the church. A luncheon will follow at the Plainview American Legion, immediately following burial. Memorials preferred to the donor’s choice.
