grew up on a large family farm south of Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1965. Susie had a God given gift of music and her musical career was very extensive. She was an original member of the Petit Swing Band and played in a group, “The Mods” with her brother Pat. She then joined the “Happy Go Lucky Review” and they toured the Midwest and the East Coast. Susie then joined “The Faculty” and they toured from New Brunswick to Miami, Florida and also played in Nassau, Bahamas. She then moved back to the area and played with various bands traveling throughout Minnesota. Most recently she and her sisters played together in their band “Sisters and Company”. In addition to her music career, she was employed at High Plains Co-op in Plainview for 20 years. In 1978 she married Joseph Niesen and they had a daughter, Christine. Together they had a band called “Country Tyme”. They also owned and operated Maple Leaf Lanes in Winona, MN. They later divorced. She was a lifetime member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview. Susie enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. Susie is survived by her father and step mother, Logan and Lu Petit of Plainview, One daughter; Christine (Eric Getschmann) Niesen of Elgin, two grandsons; Grant and Reid. Five sisters, June (Don) Tlougan of St. Charles, Mary (Steve) Motske of Huntington Beach, CA, Rita (Edward) Schultz of Rochester, Margaret (Dr. William) Marshall of Rochester, and Brenda Petit of Simpson, Five brothers; Joseph (Nancy) Petit, Patrick (Diane) Petit, Robert (Barb) Petit, Bernard Petit all of Plainview, and Mark (Colleen) Petit of Rochester. Susie was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn (Ryan) Petit, and two brothers; John and Larry Petit. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, January 25, 11 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial will be at St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 4-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
