Bill was born June 18, 1924 in Wabasha County, MN to William and Julia A (Darcy) Martin. He married Elaine Vogel on September 30, 1950 at St. Cashmere Church in Newton, WI. In his early years he was a mechanic and school bus driver at Binder Sales and Service for 17 years. While continuing to drive school bus, he became superintendent of building and school grounds at the Plainview School for 23 years. He owned and operated, with his sons, Martin Cycle Shop where they sold and repaired bicycles. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Plainview Fire Department for 26 years and worked part time for the Plainview Police Department. He was a charter member of the Plainview Ambulance and Plainview JC’s, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the National Association of Engineers. He was able to retire at age 62. He and Elaine enjoyed traveling in their motor home and wintering in Weslaco, TX. He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Plainview; Children, William of Winona, Allan (Cathy) of Owatonna. Betty (Ben) Tlougan of Plainview, Cheryl (Ken) Eversman of Plainview, John of Owatonna, Christine (Mike) Beumer of Brooklyn, IA, Scott (Nancy) of Albert Lea and Glenn (Sue) of Austin; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and a sister, Esther Lyons of Crystal, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 1 sister and an infant son, David. Funeral mass is Saturday, December 13, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial is at the St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 4- 8 p.m. at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
